Round trip to the Eggberg

The leisurely circular hike leads from the village center to St. Antönien-Rüti where the hike branches off into the hidden, romantic Gafiertal. Past the hamlet of Rüti, the Engiwald and the Walser settlement Dörfji we head towards Gafien. On the way you pass the Schlangenstein.

The Schlagenstein is a mighty rock standing alone in the middle of the valley. Its almost semicircular, over 30 meters high high rock face "welcomes" hikers almost a bit threatening. The snake stone is said to take its name from the fact that St. Anthony is said to have once banished the snakes from up there. A level-headed St. Antönier once said that he was much more likely that worried St. Antönier mothers, in order to prevent their children from climbing the stone, had made them know that there were snakes up there...

Really obsi (upwards) it goes from "Litzistafel", past the shepherd's hut of the Jenazer Alp. With every meter of altitude, the view becomes more and more impressive and once you reach the summit you finally overlook the whole St. Antöniertal. From the simple Eggberg there are various descent possibilities, we recommend the route via the Vordersäss and Ascharina to St. Antönien.
