Description

The “Fideriser Heuberge“ are located on a plateau 2’000 meters above sea level. The small winter sport area is especially well-known for having the longest sledding run in Switzerland. The only way to reach the “Fideriser Heuberge” is on a small bus or by hiking up on snowshoes.

The trail starts at the “Berggasthaus Arfina” restaurant. A short but strenuous hike brings you to the „Clunersee” plateau in the middle of an untouched winter wonderland, just minutes beyond the chalets. You can see the “Walserdorf St. Antönien” far in the distant northeast. Ironically but fittingly, St. Antönien invites guests with its slogan: «Behind the moon, to the left...» (meaning the end of the world can be seen from St. Antönien). Under a seemingly endless blue sky, snowshoe hikers walk across sparkling snow and pass by chalets buried in the deep new snow, surrounded by majestic mountain peaks which separate the plains from the “Schanfigg” valley. Everyday life is left behind and each step brings you closer to nature in the “Heuberge”.

Clunerseen: the place where frogs and ducks “say good night” in the summertime. The wide plains around the two morainal lakes include several wetlands of national significance. Rare animals and plants that over time have become highly specialized in surviving in these conditions can be found there as well.

Geheimtipp

Combine the tour with a fondue party and a fast sled run on one of the longest sled runs in the Alps (12 km). And: Be sure to try the Heuburger deluxe, absolutely great!

Sicherheitshinweis

The marked snowshoe tour leads into the unsecured, partly alpine winter terrain. It is up to each tourer to fully equip himself and to inform himself about the snow and avalanche conditions before the tour.

The time information is a guide value in good conditions for experienced tourer. Time information for snowshoe tours can vary greatly depending on conditions, equipment and condition. Allow enough time and start the planned tour early!

This tour description and the marking in the area do not represent a tour recommendation. Each inspection decision is the sole responsibility of the individual tourer. It is strongly recommended not to walk in bad visibility conditions (fog, snow, etc.) or in case of heightened risk of avalanches.

Attention, spring conditions: From about March and generally on warm and / or very sunny days, tours must be terminated early.

Ausrüstung

Well-functioning snowshoes, sticks with winter plates, good footwear, winter-proof clothing. In winter, the wind can sensitively reduce the perceived temperature: do not forget winter gloves, hat, thermos, etc.!

A complete winter tour equipment incl. avalanche search device is recommended on the marked snowshoe trail and generally on all tours in the free alpine terrain.
